More than 57,000 young people received their Leaving Certificate results across the country yesterday and emotions were running high in Galway as anxious students collected their results in schools across the city and county.
Students of Yeats College were in buoyant mood and most were celebrating positive results and were relieved that their hard work had paid off.
Dangan brothers Eoghan and Diarmuid O’Connor both achieved a fantastic result of 590 points, with fellow students Gerard Feeney (Carnmore ) and Vincent Griffin (Castlerea ) also scoring an impressive 590 points.
First-time Leaving Certificate student Eva Mc Cabe from Clarenbridge, who completed the two year programme at Yeats College, achieved 580 points, scoring an incredible eight As. Principal Terry Fahy says a high number of students from Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Westmeath and Sligo achieved results in excess of 570 points.
A large number of students received four, five and six A1s in various subjects including the languages, science and practical subjects. The Leaving Cert class of 2010 performed extremely well, especially in Chemistry, Maths and Physics, which goes against the national trend of high failure rates in these subjects. A high number of students also achieved the much sought after A grade in English.
Commenting on the results of Yeats College students, Principal Terry Fahy said, “I am absolutely delighted with the success of our Leaving Certificate students of 2010. I want to personally congratulate and commend the students on all their hard work and commitment. The majority of students are now confident of a place on their first choice course, so their hard work all year has now been rewarded.”
