Collection days will take place at shopping centres across Galway in the coming weeks to raise funds for those afflicted by flooding in Pakistan.
Flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains in parts of the country have washed away crops and left entire villages under several feet of water, affecting some 20 million people. According to the UN up to six million are in need of emergency aid as a result of the disaster.
Galway woman Geraldine Curley has organised a series of fundraising days in Galway in response to the disaster, with collections taking place around the city and county in the coming weeks. All donations will go directly to Concern’s work in providing emergency relief to flood victims.
Collections will take place in Briarhill tomorrow (Friday ); Shop Street this Saturday August 21; the Eyre Square Centre on Thursday August 26; and Galway Shopping Centre on Saturday August 28; with other collection days also being planned.
Donations can also be made directly to the Concern account at the Bank of Ireland, Eyre Square, account number 16322733, sort code 90 00 17. Donations should be marked for Pakistan.
“Concern is doing what it can on a daily basis,” a spokesperson for the charity said in a statement. “Please perform your part by supporting Geraldine in achieving her objectives with her fundraising activities.”
