For anyone pressed for ideas on how to best spend your cash winnings from the Galway Races last week, you need look no further. After some debate in Brown Thomas, it was decided these five trends are worth following.
1. According to Shelly Corkery, fashion director of Brown Thomas , number one this season, invest in something red. From the mulberry silk dress in Jesire, to the coats in Dianne Von Furstenberg and Love Moschino, red is the colour of the season, and we will be seeing more and more of it. It is prevalent across all collections.
For those only wanting to give a nod to the red trend, why not try a lipstick? Chanel does the ultimate one in its Rouge Coco range, called Gabriel. Red lips, when paired with a crisp white shirt as seen in DVF, or an all grey Sarah Pacini ensemble, immediately ups your game.
2. Next on the must-have list this season would have to be the poncho or cape. Max Mara do a very nice beige offering. A feminine alternative to a coat or jacket, the poncho just feels right.
3. Something in camel. Camel is seen on every runway from Paris to New York. Pick up a pair of camel coloured shoes in LK Bennet (they elongate the leg ), or if coat shopping, Max Mara has channelled Princess Grace this season with several gorgeous options to choose from.
4. A splurge on a new foundation. If you feel desperately guilty buying a new foundation before the one you’re currently using is finished, simply relegate your old one to the weekends (or vice versa, depending on your priorities of course ). Lancôme has just launched its most advanced foundation ever, Teint Miracle. Hydrating and long-lasting, this actually reproduces your own skin’s light emitting capacity, giving a bare skin effect with full coverage.
5. A proper nightie! Sleeping in an old T-shirt becomes a bad habit that every girl should break. Invest in an exquisite nightie; Elle Macpherson’s version is a gorgeous thistle print in purple and orange.
We have rarely before been in such a classic ageless era when it comes to fashion. Grandmothers, mothers, and daughters are all connected as never before in the fashion world, everyone at last wanting the exact same thing — quality, tailoring, and iconic silhouettes, in old movie star colours. Everyone on the same page at last.
