New Kia Sportage set for October launch

Kia Motors Ireland will launch its impressive new Sportage in October.

The new sleeker model will be available with two diesel power engines. There is a 115bhp 1.7 litre model as well as a 136bhp 2.0 litre.

The 1.7 litre version will be available in 2WD format only, while the 2.0 litre will be offer both in 2WD and 4X4 versions.

Both power units offer significantly reduced CO2 emissions. The 1.7 engine falls into the B band (€156 annual road tax ) while both the 4X2 and 4X4 2.0D models fall into the C band (€302 road tax ).

“The current Sportage model was very significant in building the profile of the Kia brand in Ireland,” says Kia Motors Ireland managing director James Brooks. “Since its launch in 2005 we have sold more than 2500 units and we are keen to build on this success with the new model.

“The new Sportage with its sleek design and improved CO2 and fuel economy will appeal to existing SUV owners. It will also appeal to customers looking for a crossover alternative to traditional MPV and family hatchbacks. We are confidently predicting sales of 500 units plus for the new Sportage in 2011.”

Kia Ireland will launch with the 2.0 litre diesel in October while the 1.7 version follows in time for the busy January 2011 market. Specifications and pricing for Ireland will be announced closer to launch date.
