•A special train will return to Galway after the Ireland v Argentina soccer international on Wednesday August 11, departing Dublin Heuston Station at 11.05pm. This train also serves Athenry and Ballinasloe stations. Iarnród Éireann customers may travel to Dublin on any of the regular trains. Supporters will not be able to board trains unless they are in possession of train ticket.
•Twenty teams from Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo participated in the recent Connacht Gold Ladies Gaelic 7s Blitz Tournament at Breaffy GAA & Breaffy House Resort Pitch. In the senior final Carnacon overcame 4-10 Corofin 4-10 to 4-7; while Knockmore were intermediate cup winners over Glenamaddy-Williamstown by 2-4 to 1-3. Glinsk/Galway won the junior decider by 2 - 10 to 0 - 4 over Moy Davitts.
•Mervue United’s FAI Ford Cup third round replay with premier division Sporting Fingal has been confirmed for Tuesday August 10 at Terryland Park at 7.45 pm. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in early June at the Morton Stadium after Eamon Zayed and Mike Tierney swapped first-half goals in that intial encounter. The winner will advance to a fourth-round meeting with Limerick FC.
•A six-a-side Gaelic Football Tournament began on Monday featuring minor, u-21 and senior players of Fr Griffins Eire Og Football Club with some guests. The games will be played at South Park each Wednesday evening with the top two teams competing in the final in late August. The tournament takes place in honour of Mick Dolan who was a tireless worker at juvenile and adult level, and was also dedicated administrator at the club.
