THE MUSIC of the Shetland Islands, mainland Scotland, and Ireland will come together when Catriona McKay and Chris Stout play The Crane Bar, Sea Road, this Sunday at 9pm.
Catriona McKay (Scottish harp and piano ) and Chris Stout (Shetland fiddle ) will be joined by Tommy O’Sullivan (vocalist/guitarist ) for the show.
McKay and Stout have played together for many years, often collaborating on projects with other artists but also recording Laebrack, their debut album as a duo, in 2005. They have toured across Europe and played in Brazil and Japan.
McKay is regarded as one of Scotland’s most versatile and creative harpists. She writes and arranges music for solo performance and for ensembles. She also recently designed a harp with a new tuning pattern.
Chris Stout is a native of the Shetland Islands and in 1990 he won both Shetland’s Young Fiddler of the Year and Young Musician of the Year competitions. A BBC commission for fiddle and orchestra, Dynröst was performed by Chris, members of the Chris Stout Quintet, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2007 Celtic Connections Festival.
