Charities join forces for unique fundraising event

Two Galway based charities, the Galway branch of Cystic Fibrosis and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre, have joined forces to organise a unique fundraising evening in the city on October 31.

Known as the Opera Ball, this innovative event is the first of its kind in the west of Ireland and hopes to raise more than €100,000 to provide much needed financial support for both local charities.

The event will begin with a gala banquet in the Radisson Hotel and the evening includes operatic interludes from the Opera Theatre Company followed by dancing with the Black Magic Big Band.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre are appealing to local companies to sponsor the event. Gold, silver and bronze sponsorship packages are available to companies or individuals wishing to be part of this special event.

Hewlett-Packard Galway Limited and Boston Scientific have come on board as gold sponsors with RSVP as a silver sponsor. Companies contributing sponsorship-in-kind include Konnect Media, La Maison Chic and PR Works.

Kay Tighe, fundraising manager, Galway Rape Crisis Centre says it is hoping to attract sufficient sponsor contributions to enable the proceeds of the ticket sales to be divided between the two charities.

“We have put together an attractive sponsorship package offering gold, silver and bronze levels of commitment and we would be delighted to discuss this with any interested companies or individuals.”

Mary Lane Heneghan of Cystic Fibrosis, Galway says the venture is about helping to improve the lives of those suffering with cystic fibrosis and the provision of facilities for counselling survivors of sexual violence and abuse.

“In this new economic climate with cutbacks it is difficult for charities to survive. The Opera Ball will help Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and the Galway Rape Crisis Centre to continue making a difference to those suffering with cystic fibrosis and survivors of sexual violence.”
