Table quiz in Lohans to help hardy swimmers raise funds for local cancer charity

A table quiz will be held in Lohans Bar, Salthill on Sunday July 18 at 9pm in aid of the Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim 2010.

The Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim in aid of Cancer Care West is now in its fifth year, and will take place on Saturday July 24. The swim will see 23 hardy swimmers cross the choppy waters of Galway Bay, swimming a distance of 13 kilometres from Auginish in Co Clare to the Blackrock diving tower in Salthill.

To date the swim has seen more than 50 swimmers make successful crossings while raising more than €160,000 for Cancer Care West.

As part of the swimmers’ fundraising drive this Sundays table quiz will provide an evening of fun for a great cause. Top prizes are guaranteed, and the quiz will cost €10 per person for a table of four.

All proceeds will go to Cancer Care West which is a not for profit organization dedicated to supporting those whose lives have been affected by a cancer diagnosis. The organisation’s aim is to enhance patient care and well-being, and to provide support to cancer patients and their families during and after their treatment.

Cancer Care West’s residential facility is located at Inis Aoibhinn, on the grounds of University College Hospital Galway, while the cancer support centre is based at Seamus Quirke Road. Cancer Care West also provides outreach services in Clifden and Roscommon town.
