Corrib Park is to be allocated a full-time FÁS worker as a dedicated maintenance worker for the area. The position begins at the end of August and will continue for a period of 12 months.
The news of the appointment has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil councillor Ollie Crowe, who has been working on this issue for some time.
Corrib Park is one of the largest estates in the west side of the city with more than 350 houses and Cllr Crowe said that he has, over the past year, received several complaints that the amenity/park areas have been unkempt.
As a result the Galway City Council and FÁS have agreed to release a full-time worker to the area whose sole responsibility will be to maintain the area over the coming year.
“There is a great sense of community about Corrib Park,” said Cllr Crowe. “There are wonderful residents, sports clubs and ladies’ committees. They take a sense of pride in where they come from. I am delighted that this worker will assist them in bringing their estate back to its finer glory.”
Cllr Crowe said he is also working on other issues in the west side, such as helping Corrib Rangers soccer club in progressing its all-weather facility.
