Be a pawn — Participants needed for Galway chess set pottery project

A local potter is looking for 32 people to each add a unique figurine to a chess set based on Galway, as part of a fun and free project.

Lawrence O’Kelly, who runs a pottery shop at 3 Lower Merchants Road, is calling on all those who ever fancied trying their hand at working with clay to create a piece that will form part of this unique chess set.

“I need 32 people to each make a figure and I will be giving three classes, free of charge, on figure modelling. Everyone involved will make a figure and they decide what will form part of the overall set. I see the whole thing as just fun, it’s easy to make a fun figure or caricature. During classes people are always amazed at how good they can be at it,” said an enthusiastic Mr O’Kelly.

The first class meeting will take place on Monday July 12 at 8pm. For more information contact Lawrence O’Kelly on 086 1020308.
