Gardaí in Galway have warned people not to respond to letters stating they have won the French Euromillions following reports of a number of such letters in Galway in recent weeks.
The letters, similar to emails which purport to represent the administrators of some obscure lottery, ask the recipient to reply with personal details in order to claim a substantial cash prize. Gardaí are advising people who receive such correspondence not to reply to it, and not to send personal information regarding bank accounts under any circumstances. Similarly, people should not send money in order to pay for the release of the fictional prize.
Further information on how to avoid falling victim to such scams is available from the Garda crime prevention office at (091 ) 538000.
