Republic of Loose @ Monroe’s Live

THE REPUBLIC of Loose, the original Celtic funk-soul brothers, will bring their horny funk, salacious soul, and libidinous rhythms to Monroe’s Live on Thursday June 24.

Ribald and filthy like Snoop Dogg or The Dubliners, the Republic of Loose’s sleazy soul is arguably more in tune with Ireland’s folk tradition than are the often chaste singer-songwriters.

“The old folk songs have reference to sex and all those poems like The Midnight Court are very bawdy,” said lead singer Mick Pyro. “It fits more into the Irish culture. I don’t know why Irish artists don’t take from it more.”

Tickets are €19 and available from Monroe’s and Zhivago Records.
