JAPANESE METAL, Swedish fun, English cool, and Irish brilliance are on the cards over the next few months with a host of brilliant acts set to play the Róisín Dubh.
Tonight, Galway new wave band Disconnect 4 play a free show at Strange Brew, while Japan’s Electric Eel Shock bring their riveting mix of heavy metal, classic rock, and inspired lunacy to the Róisín tomorrow night.
The Strange Brew Summer Shindig 4 takes place on Thursday July 31 and features a stellar line-up of Le Galaxie, Disconnect 4, Only Fumes & Corpses, Blasterbra, and In Search of The Lost Chord. The fun starts at 7pm, admission is free and there will be free stuff on the night as well.
It’s back to Japan when the mighty Acid Mothers Temple & the Cosmic Inferno unleash their mind altering, brain warping, heavy metal meets prog meets avant garde thunder on Tuesday August 5. On Friday August 8, RnaG’s An Taobh Tuathail will be broadcast live from the Róisín Dubh and performers include the excellent Dry County and Somadrome.
Hamell On Trial, aka Ed Hamell, the one man agit folk, punk, performance poet, and social critic, will bring his fast guitar and torrent of words and lyrics to the upstairs bar at the Róisín on Tuesday August 12.
Maxïmo Park, one of the hippest English bands around right now, play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday August 21 at 9pm. The legendary Freddie White makes a welcome return to the Róisín Dubh on Sunday August 24, while reggae fans will flock to see the Trojan Soundsystem on Saturday September 20.
Shearwater (vocalist composer Jonathan Meiburg ), have just released the fascinating folk-prog-indie album Rook. They play on Sunday September 21. On Friday September 26, O’Death bring their individual take on traditional folk, bluegrass, punk, gypsy music, metal, swing, and jazz to the Róisín.
Two gigs that are sure to be among the highlights of the coming months will be the brilliant Irish singer-songwriter and ball of energy that is Wallis Bird on Friday October 24 while Sweden’s I’m From Barcelona will bring a party atmosphere, happy songs, and good natured eccentricity to their show on Saturday December 13 at 8pm.
Other gigs to look out for are The Flaws (October 2 ), British ska legends The Beat (October 3 ), Japanese post-rockers LITE (October 10 ), Irish indie rockers The Blizzards (October 17 and 18 ), Shellac (October 27 ), and Michah P Hinson (October 31 ).
