IN THE brilliant comedy film School Of Rock, Jack Black showed learning can be fun, and when it comes to learning rock music, nothing is more fun.
The Access Music Project has taken a leaf from Mr Black’s book and run its own School Of Rock over the last couple of years. The school returns again in July and is open to those aged between 13 and 18 giving the chance to learn rock music with professional musicians, to form bands, and have fun.
This programme caters for musicians at every level from beginner to aspiring musician. During the week, participants will play in an ensemble with an array of percussion instruments, have professional pop/rock singing and vocal training, as well as a full week of guitar lessons. The week will culminate with a group performance as a finale where family and friends are invited to attend.
The School Of Rock takes place in St Patrick’s Bandroom, Forster Street, from 10am to 3pm Mondays to Fridays from July 5 to 9 and from July 12 to 16. The fee is €145 (€220 for two family members or for two weeks ). It covers all tuition, music, and a snack meal but you must bring your own guitar.
