Galway city and county took high honours this week after being named one of the country’s top recycling regions in a nationwide survey by Rehab Recycle.
The survey, which was carried out as part of Repak’s Recycling Week, showed that more than 4,000 tonnes of waste glass were deposited in Galway city and county glass banks since January of 2008, the equivalent to almost 13.5 million glass bottles and jars. The green Galwegians, who came in second only to Cork city, recycled a whopping 64 glass bottles and jars per person living in the city and county.
The 8th annual Repak Recycling Week begins today and run until October 12 with the ambitious aim of recycling 750,000 tonnes, up 100,000 from their target last year. For a full list of local recycling centres and for more information on activities during Repak Recycling Week visit www.repak.ie
