Plans for a new Galway Garda HQ go on public display

Plans for a new Garda divisional and regional headquarters for Galway on a site in Murrough on the Dublin Road in Renmore have been announced by the OPW.

The proposal by the OPW is for the demolition of the single-storey building on the site and construction of a new 8,000 square metre, four/five-storey building. It will be built on a two acre site with potential room for expansion. The station will work closely with the new Garda station at Oranmore.

Drawings and details of the proposed development will go on display at Millstreet Garda Station and the OPW, Claremorris, Co Mayo. They will be on display for public viewing and comment for the next six weeks.

Independent deputy for Galway West, Noel Grealish has welcomed the news.

“This is a significant step forward for this new headquarters and will ensure An Garda Síochána continue to provide a visible and efficient policing service around the city,” he said, “and will more than adequately meet the needs of Galway’s growing population.
