Parking nightmare at UCHG causing unnecessary patient stress

People attending out-patient appointments at University Hospital Galway are often late and in some cases, miss appointments altogether because of the difficult getting parking at the west’s biggest hospital.

This is a major source of stress for patients, says Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish. He met hospital management recently and requested that a portion of the car park be reserved for out-patient appointments between 8am and 3pm each day.

“At present, people attending out-patients appointments at the hospital are finding it extremely difficult to get parking at the hospital. This is causing them to be late and in some cases, miss appointments altogether because they are driving around trying to get parking.

“It is a cause of great stress and worry for people that they might not be able to get parking when they attend for appointments. This is an unnecessary stress and can be resolved. I have met with hospital management and I have asked that a section of the car park now be reserved for people attending outpatient appointments during the hours of 8am and 3pm each day. The car park can then be opened up to everyone else after that.

The Carnmore TD suggested that people present their appointment card to gain access to the car park.

“Management at the hospital have agreed to consider my proposal and I expect the public will have positive news on this vital requirement very shortly,” he says.
