“I will not be intimidated” by an attack that was “designed to intimidate” is how Green senator Niall Ó Brolcháin has reacted to the vandalism of his Salthill clinic.
Less than two weeks after it was officially opened by the Minister for the Environment John Gormley, Sen Ó Brolcháin’s clinic in Salthill was attacked by vandals sometime between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
Two large splashes of red paint were on the building’s front wall while paint was smeared and dripped across the window and walls.
Sen Ó Brolcháin condemned the vandalism, calling it “a mindless act of vandalism, an anonymous and cowardly way of deliberately vandalising the office”.
“The bright red colour was obviously chosen to shock,” said Sen Ó Brolcháin, “but it is not even clear what the purpose of the vandalism is.”
He said if people had problems or issues with him, he would prefer they “come and talk to me and I would give them a listening ear” rather then indulging in vandalism.
He also said the attack was “unfair to all of those who have had their working day blighted by this scene”.
“There are children walking to school who have had to face this unsightly vandalism for no good reason,” he said. “Salthill is also one of Galway’s key tourist attractions.”
