‘Make a Difference’ first eyecare awards

THE inaugural VISPA Vision Week with Specsavers takes place this week with special new awards for those who make a difference to people with impaired vision the recognition they deserve.

These inaugural ‘Make a Difference Awards’ are open to anyone who has helped make the life of the visually impaired easier - a restaurant which has made its menu available in Braille or a library with special lights. These are the kind of organisations across Ireland that the Making a Difference Awards with Specsavers will celebrate.

The three categories are individual, community and business. The awards enable people who are blind or vision impaired to nominate those whose contribution to their daily lives deserves to be recognised. Nomination forms are available in Specsavers in Galway, as well as all 36 Specsavers stores across Ireland. Closing date for nominations is July 11 and winners will be announced on World Sight Day, October 14, 2010.

Noel Meehan, store director for Specsavers, Galway, comments: “Specsavers is delighted to be the sponsor of the inaugural Making a Difference Awards with Specsavers as we aim to make a difference to all Irish people with sight issues. We know how even the smallest things can make a difference to someone who is blind or vision impaired, so we would encourage people to nominate those who have helped make a difference to them.”
