See Peter O’Toole in Dean Spanley

THE LEGENDARY Peter O’Toole will star in Dean Spanley, which will be screened by the Galway Film Society on Sunday.

The film will be shown in the Town Hall Theatre at 3pm as part of the Bealtaine Festival - the arts festival celebrating creativity in older age.

Based on a novella by the Irish author Baron Dunsany, Dean Spanley stars Jeremy Northam as Fisk, an Edwardian publisher who is exasperated by his cantankerous father, played by Peter O’Toole.

Fisk makes the acquaintance of churchman Dean Spanley (Sam Neill ) and he is astonished to discover that the dean is the reincarnation of a bizarre departed soul - a soul who may, by declaring himself, allow his father to rediscover his emotions.

The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw said O’Toole is “on sublime form as an irascible curmudgeon”, while The Telegraph described the film as “eccentric, absorbing and rewarding”.

Admission is €6/5. For more information and booking contact the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or see www.tht.ie
