Cortoon Badminton Club captured All-Ireland glory last weekend by claiming victory in the Inter League finals at the Terenure Badminton Centre in Dublin.
Having already claimed county and Connacht medals this year, the players added an elusive All-Ireland to this year’s list of honours - a great achievement for a small rural club.
Coached by Jonathan Clarke, Justin Lane and Christy Clarke and captained by Liz Corbett, Cortoon overcame Ballykilleen from Carlow and favorites Melbourne from Cork in their final match.
This is Cortoon’s fourth All-Ireland title after previous victories last year and also in 1998, 2000.
Also representing Galway and Connacht in their respective grades at the weekend were Claregalway and Loughrea Badminton Clubs. Loughrea played Ashbourne from Meath and County BC from Tralee, while Claregalway took on the Nomads from Bray and Killarney BC from Kerry. Unfortunately both teams lost out to very strong competition.
