Hurlers facing injury crisis ahead of Wexford game

The Galway senior hurling management will be hoping their luck changes soon as a growing number of players have been picking up injuries over the past few weeks.

Already without long term injury victim Fergal Moore, the panel has been rocked by a series of niggling problems to key players Ollie Canning, Damien Hayes, Ger Farragher, Donal Barry, Eanna Ryan and Niall Healy. Also suffering from knocks currently are Richie Cummins, Damien Joyce, Iarla Tannian and Niall Hayes.

The injury list was so long on Tuesday night the team management took the unusual decision to cancel the training session as the list of the walking wounded had gone over the 20 mark. Instead the team had a recovery session followed by some video analysis in the Salthill hotel.

Obviously with the first round of the Leinster championship just around the corner, the situation is serious, and team manager John McIntyre will be hoping for a rapid change of fortune.

The team played the Cork seniors last weekend and came out on the wrong side of a 2-25 to 0-17 result. However Cork had most of their full team and many of the Galway lads had played club games in the preceding 24 hours.

A period of rest and recuperation will probably be the order of the day for the next week or so to try to give every chance for the injured men to get back to full match fitness.
