Galway bands join forces for charity concert

SOME OF Galway’s leading bands will gather in The Quays Bar tonight at 9pm for a concert to raise funds for the Dochas Nasamu Children’s Home in Kenya.

Performing on the night are Emmet Scanlan & What The Good Thought, A Band Called Wanda, The Rye, Ruth Dillon, and Peter Akerstrom & Friends.

Dochas Nasamu is a Children’s Home Project in Ikumbi in the Maragua district of Kenya. It was opened in 2002 by Dr Sarah Wairimu in Ikumbi and Galway’s Mary Anne Wangari. The 60 children living there, most of whom were orphaned by parents dying of AIDS, are aged four years and up.

Dochas Nasamu pays for the children’s education with two now in university and 18 in high school. A sister project was set up here in Galway, a second hand shop called Harambe where all the money raised goes to the children’s home.

Admission is €10. Tickets are available from the Harambe Charity Shop, Newcastle Road or at the door on the night. For more information contact Mary Anne Wangari on 087 - 7514895.
