Dolan’s to hold summer art auction this weekend

Dolan’s art auction returns to the Marriott Hotel on the Headford Road, Galway, this weekend, with a very interesting and varied collection of paintings and sculptures.

More than 250 paintings will go under the hammer at Dolan’s summer art auction, which will take place this Sunday May 16 at 4.30pm.

Dolan’s Art Auction House is one of Ireland’s premier art auction houses, with remarkable success to date, and a growing reputation for showcasing the best in emerging Irish talent. Dolan’s now operates in Galway, Limerick, and Cork, and Niall Dolan says he is delighted with the quality of paintings on offer, and he is particularly pleased that so many of the works of art are available at affordable prices, as the majority of the 250 paintings on offer have no reserve or asking prices.

Many interesting views of Galway are included in the exhibition, and the work of Annemarie Bourke, Val Byrne, and the late Somhairle MacCana provides interesting and remarkable snapshots of the city, past and present.

Dolan’s is pleased to include in this auction a small private collection of work by well known Irish artists, included in this collection are fine examples of work by artists such as Arthur Maderson, Frank Egginton, and Desmond Turner.

Many of the top names from the Irish art world feature in this sale, and notable works include a self-portrait of the fascinating and ingenious artist John Schwatschke. With such a broad range of contemporary art, and artists from as far afield as Germany, South Africa, and Italy, the sale will provide a great night’s entertainment. Dolan’s also plans to give two lucky people a free weekend in Ballynahinch Castle, Connemara, on auction night.

The entire collection goes on public view in the Marriott Hotel, Galway, this Friday May 14, from 2pm to 9pm, and viewing continues all day Saturday from 10am to 9pm. Viewing on Sunday May 16 finishes at 4pm and the auction itself starts at 4.30pm in the Marriott Hotel. All are welcome and admission of course is free.
