Top Irish business woman to address BPW lunch

The head of a national directory enquiry company will be the guest speaker at the Galway Business and Professional Women’s summer lunch on Friday May 21 at The Ardilaun.

Leading Irish business woman Nicola Byrne is the managing director of 11890. She spent her early career at a number of companies, ranging from Gateaux and Jacobs to Evian, Bank of Ireland and AC Nielsen.

She then set up her first company, Stenix Media, selling advertising on tickets. She subsequently spotted the opportunity for a new directory-enquiry service and 11890 was born. It began as a corporate-only service and she signed up a range of top clients including KPMG, An Post and AIB. Currently employing more than 100 people it receives 200,000 calls a day. Ms Byrne is listed at number eight among the top business women in Ireland.

The lunch will begin with a champagne reception at noon followed by a four course meal. Afterwards, people can relax to some swinging jazz. The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children/Childline will receive the money generated by the raffle at the summer lunch. It will be used to finance activities at it local Galway office. Founded in 1889 it is one of Ireland’s oldest and best known children’s charities.

Speaking at the launch, BPW Galway president Carmen Taheny said the organisation was delighted that FBD Insurance was its main sponsor.

“FBD is the second largest Irish insurance company in Ireland, coupled with great value insurance and genuine customer service looking after more than half a million cars, homes and businesses this year.”

Brown Thomas will offer essential beauty and fashion tips during the day and are also sponsoring a special prize for the most stylish lady.
