Rugby legend Flannery helps charity

People can be in with a chance to win an Ireland rugby jersey and help a charity which works for the betterment of children trapped in the sex industry by taking part in the unique online raffle being run in Galway.

The Western Hotel is co-ordinating the rugby jersey fundraiser which is in aid of PREDA. It is the brainchild of Ireland and Munster legend Jerry Flannery who donated his player issued Ireland jersey from the autumn international against Fiji held in November 2009.

The Ireland squad signed this rare item of sporting memorabilia and Jerry also arranged for a squad signed Munster, Leinster and Ulster jersey. The Connacht team were also quick to lend their support by donating a signed jersey to complete this one-off raffle.

The draw will take place on the Heineken Cup final day on May 22 at the Western Hotel. The €5 tickets can be bought from the Western Hotel, Galway Community College at (091 ) 755464 or Mac Grath Butchers, Mervue (091 ) 757790 or through the raffle sales link on The Western Hotel website - western.ie

All tickets bought online will be given a number. People interested in selling some lines for the charity should contact The Western or PREDA Galway. For further information on the work of PREDA and PREDA Galway log onto www.preda.org, www.predagalway.org or email [email protected] or telephone (086 ) 6681339. Check out the work of PREDA Galway on You Tube (simply type Damien PREDA ). New members and ideas are always welcome.

The proceeds from the raffle will be donated directly to meet the growing needs of the children rescued by PREDA. The money will be given to Fr Shay and his team by singer/songwriter and PREDA supporter Damien Dempsey and PREDA Galway chairperson Philip Cribbin when they travel to the charity’s centre in June. Both Damien and Philip will be travelling at their own expense as PREDA believes that all money raised for the children should go directly to them.
