A young man accused of commiting violent disorder and intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to a man has been sent forward for trial.
Dean O’Brien (24 ) with an address at 16 Droim Chaoin, Bishop O’Donnell Road, Rahoon, was brought in custody before Judge Mary Fahy at Galway District Court last Monday.
O’Brien is charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Barry Mannion and of assault causing harm to the same man at William Street West, Galway, and of violent disorder in that he with others used or threatened to use unlawful violence and that such conduct, taken together, was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for his and others’ safety at Dominick Street on December 28, 2009. He is further charged with producing in the course of a fight a bottle at Dominick Street.
Garda Thomas Doyle told the court that the book of evidence had been served on the accused before the court sitting. Inspector Mick Coppinger said that the DPP had consented to O’Brien being sent forward for trial at the Galway Circuit Court. Judge Fahy then remanded O’Brien into further custody.
The Galway Circuit Court heard on Tuesday that the case will be adjourned to October 5 next to set a date for the trial
