Subsidies for and trade agreements with the Third World will be examined and discussed at a public meeting in the Galway One World Centre in the Bridge Mills on Tuesday at 7pm.
Mbemba Abdulie Jabbi, programme officer at the Africa Centre in Dublin, will give his perspective on subsidies, why trade agreements are bad for development, and how Ireland depends on trade from African countries. There will be a question and answer session with the audience afterwards.
“Annually, countries in the Global South receive US$55 billion in aid from countries in the Global North,” said GOWC coordinator Heike Vornhagen, “yet they lose more than twice this amount through trade barriers and unjust trade agreements.”
Admission is free. For more information contact the GOWC on 091 - 530590, email [email protected], or see www.galwayowc.org
