Saturday is May Day, the International Workers’ Day, which since the late 1800s has been a day to celebrate the international labour movement and call for further social and economic progress.
The Galway branch of the Socialist Workers Party will hold a free public meeting on Saturday at 3.30pm in Richardson’s, Eyre Square.
At the meeting UCD sociologist Dr Kieran Allen will deliver a lecture entitled Resist! Revolt!! How To Get This Government Out!!!
Dr Allen will explain that while the Government is determined to bail out banks, working people have to suffer job losses, reductions in income, and cut-backs in essential services. He believes a better alternative involves taking the banks into public control and holding those responsible to account.
All are welcome to the meeting which will be followed by a question and answer session.
