Galway Fianna Fáil members gather for city conference

Fianna Fáil members from throughout Co Galway will be gathering in the Clayton Hotel this Saturday for the Galway East/Galway West Fianna Fáil Conference.

Attending the conference will be the Tánaiste Mary Coughlan, the Minister for Agriculture & Fisheries Brendan Smith, and the Minister for Social Protection Éamon Ó Cuív. Issues of local and national importance will be discussed on the day.

The conference will begin at 10am with a welcome address by the former mayor of Galway and current Galway West Fianna Fáil CDC president Micheál O’hUiginn. This will be followed by an open conference and address by the Tánaiste and an address on economics by Prof Seamus Caulfield of the Western Development Commission.

The conference will include a number of workshops. Minister Brendan Smith will lead one on agriculture and fisheries; the Minister for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary will host a workshop on banking and the economy.

A workshop on job creation and unemployment will be given by Minister Ó Cuív while roads and flooding will be led by Dr Martin Mansergh, the Minister with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works.

North West MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher will give a European affairs update. The conference will also be addressed by Galway TDs Frank Fahey, Micheál P Kitt, and Noel Treacy. The concluding address will be given by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’Keeffe. A press conference will follow at 2.30pm.
