City girl crowned Galway Rose

Blackrock native Isabelle Greene was crowned Galway Rose for 2010 at the Rose of Tralee selection night before a capacity crowd at the Radisson Blu Hotel last Saturday night.

Miss Greene will now go forward and represent Galway at the Irish Regional Finals taking place at the Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

The 21-year-old beat off stiff competition from 23 other contestants to be crowned the Galway Rose. Speaking of her shock when her name was announced the UCD business student said, “I am absolutely delighted to be the new Galway Rose, I really did not expect this at all and am so proud to be representing Galway at the regional finals”.

Miss Greene also gave special thanks to Hermes Technology who sponsored her participation. Over 450 people attended the event at the excellent purpose built new venue, the Live Lounge at the Radisson Blu. Dignitaries in attendance included Galway Deputy Mayor Councillor Peter Keane and Rose of Tralee Chief Executive Mr Anthony O’Gara.

Galway Rose Co-ordinator Rebecca Kemp was delighted with the turnout and performance of the girls on the night. Speaking of the event Rebecca said, “We had a great crowd and support for all the girls involved. The girls on stage were a credit to themselves and their families. The standard this evening was very high of all 24 girls competing and Isabelle is a worthy winner and will be a great ambassador for Galway at the regional finals”.

All proceeds on the night went to Voluntary Service Overseas, the Festival’s official charity partner.

Ms Kemp also paid special tribute to the escorts who performed admirably on the night. Winning escort Colm Power will now go forward to international week in Tralee as an international escort.
