Barna United keeps growing

Barna United Football Club is calling for dedicated soccer facilities to meet the needs of the 18 teams and 500 teenagers and adults who will be playing competitively for the club by 2015.

Speaking at the club's annual social in the Connemara Coast Hotel, club chairman Paddy Medley said the need for dedicated facilities was critical.

"While we support the extension of playing facilities in Furbo, the provision of new facilities by Barna GAA at Cloghscoilte, and the redevelopment of the Truskey West Barna Co-op facility, our club is growing so fast that dedicated soccer facilities are essential to keep up," he said.

The guest of honour, Stephen Lally, said emerging clubs like Barna United are making a massive contribution to the development of juvenile soccer at all levels in the county.

As a further sign of strength, the club has announced it will field its first adult team in the 2010-2011 season. Anyone interested in getting involved may contact Ollie Mullins 087 689 4497.

The club's director of football, Noel O'Toole, has been named Club Person of the Year,
