Clifden woman charged with assaulting mother and daugher with broken ashtray

A Clifden woman charged with seriously injuring her daughter and elderly mother in a frenzied attack at the family home has been remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.

Bernie Conneely (39 ) with an address given as Fahy, Sky Road, Clifden, was brought before Galway District Court on Monday charged with allegedly assaulting Chloe Conneely causing her harm, and while committing this offence did produce an article, namely a sharp edged piece of broken glass ashtray, capable of inflicting serious injury on March 2, 2010, at her home address. Conneely is also accused of allegedly assaulting Agnes Stuffle causing her harm on the same date and at the same location.

Further charges include threatening and abusive behaviour at UHG, Newcastle, on February 25, assault of Agnes Stuffle at Fahy, Sky Road, Clifden, threatening and abusive behaviour, and resisting Garda Mary Gallagher at Clifden Garda station on February 8. Conneely is also charged with threatening and abusive behaviour and tresspassing at a building at Fahy, Clifden, in such a manner as to cause fear in another person on February 6.

Judge Mary Fahy noted that reports furnished at a previous court sitting said that the accused has “no psychological issues” but that there was a “personality disorder”.

Inspector Pat McHugh then told the court that the DPP had directed that the matter be dealt with summarily in the district court. Judge Fahy accepted jurisdiction and remanded Conneely in custody to appear again at Galway
