First Irish registered electric car charges in

Pictured arriving at Dublin Port this week is a Mitsubishi i-MiEV, the first electric vehicle from a mainstream manufacturer to be registered in Ireland. It is positive proof that EVs are no longer in the distant future, and 143 more Mitsubishi i-MIEVs will arrive in Ireland this June.

The multi-award winning Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a genuine small car that ensures no compromise in cabin space, performance, functionality and safety.

It has a top speed of 130k/ph (80mph ), a range of 160km, and can be charged from flat to full in six hours at any standard three-pin socket. And Mitsubishi says it only costs €2 for a full charge.

The i-MiEV has been on sale in Japan since July last year, and has been a sell-out success. The 1,400 units built in 2009 for the Japanese market were immediately snapped up and Mitsubishi says that demand continues to grow worldwide.

The pictured I-MiEV will be used for the analysis of driving and charging behaviour in advance of the establishment of a nationwide infrastructure of EV charging units. The Government has set a target that by 2020 some 10 per cent of all vehicles on Irish roads will be electric.
