Mervue host league leaders

Mervue United face top-of-the-table Waterford United in Saturday’s Airtricity League divison one clash at Terryland Park (7pm ).

Still looking to record their first win in the league, Mervue came unstuck against the newly-formed Cork City Foras Co-op last weekend, going down 4 - 2.

A Shane Duggan second-half hat-trick gave the Cork side its first win, but Mervue manager Tom French is looking at the positives.

"We are obviously not happy with the result. We were well in the game until we had a man sent off. When you have to chase an equaliser with 10 men, you leave gaps and that’s what happened with the last two goals scored by Cork.

“ On the positive side, to score two goals in this match is good to go on with and I would like to congratulate Enda Curran for scoring his first senior goal. At the age of 17 he has a good future ahead him.

“All said we are on the right track and I know it is only a matter of time till we get a win.”

Salthill Devon, who are away to Wexford Youths, were 1 - 0 losers to Waterford last weekend. They will regard Sunday’s fixture as a real chance to get their first points of the league when they face fellow strugglers Wexford who are just two place above them in the table.
