A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions following the arrest of a minor in Ballinasloe last weekend on suspicion of robbing two shops in the town.
The first robbery occurred at Ash Tree Stores in the town at 9pm on Saturday. A young man went into the shop wearing a balaclava and armed with a hammer and demanded money from the staff. He was given cash totalling some €200 and left.
On Monday, a robber entered the Topaz filling station shop in Brackernagh, again wearing a balaclava and armed with a hammer, and demanded money. The staff handed him some €200 and he then left.
Gardaí were called to the scene and arrived shortly after the robbery. They quickly apprehended a minor, who was arrested and brought to Ballinasloe Garda station for questioning. He was later released without charge and a file on the incident is being prepared for the DPP.
