Leading Galway singers and dancers to help Galway Advertiser celebrate major anniversary

The Galway Advertiser offices in Eyre Square will be transformed into a big concert venue on Thursday April 15 as singers Sean Keane, Marc Roberts, and others, help the newspaper celebrate 40 years in business.

The Guinness Jazz Band Trio will start off the celebrations with a wide selection of well-known and loved jazz numbers to get everybody in a real party mood.

Next up is one of Ireland’s finest folk/roots singers, Caherlistrane’s Sean Keane. Praised by Mojo magazine as one of the finest contemporary interpreters of song, Sean’s distinctive voice can make any song his own, from any genre, be it folk, trad, pop, or country.

Sean nós dancer Emma O’Sullivan, who recently represented the west of Ireland in RTÉ’s All-Ireland Talent Show, and accordion player, John O’Halloran, will be performing this old and pure form of Irish dance, which has been enjoying a great revival since the 1990s.

At 3.30pm singer-songwriter and Galway Bay FM broadcaster Marc Roberts will be performing in the Galway Advertiser offices. Marc came to wide attention when he represented Ireland in the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest. He has since released numerous solo albums, enjoyed critical and public acclaim for his tribute concerts to the late John Denver, and written songs for Daniel O’Donnell.

There will be some swing, jazz, crooning, and a touch of the suave when Keith McDonald performs classic songs by Sinatra, Dean Martin, Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, Nat King Cole, and Tony Bennett for the enjoyment of those coming into the Galway Advertiser offices on the day.

Members of the well-known Hession School of Irish Stepdancing will participate also. Hession students have won the top awards at feiseanna all over Ireland, Britain, and the USA. Their performances at cabaret, festivals, and corporate functions are always brilliant technically and the choreography is a joy to watch.

Children will be catered for on the day as well with face painting and balloon shaping from 2pm to 4pm.

Admission is free but donations will be welcome as all proceeds collected will go to Croí, The West Of Ireland Cardiology Foundation.
