NUI Galway students have raised more than €20,000 for charity as a result of their College Week fundraising events held on campus this month.
The money raised will be distributed among COPE Galway, The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, the Peter McVerry Trust, and Habitat for Humanity.
Students raised the money through a series of fun alcohol-free events including a mini triathlon, a soccer tournament, a sports day, a dunk tank, an auction, comedy gigs, and a bucket collection on the streets of the city centre.
“We are delighted with the amount of money raised by students,” said NUIG Students’ Union president Donna Cummins. “We were overwhelmed with the positive response from staff, students, and local business especially as so many of them had recently given generously to Haitian Earthquake appeals
