Camp Claddagh plans boosted by Musicthon success

A Musicthon organised last month by local musician Richard Murray on behalf of charity Camp Claddagh, turned out to be a wonderful success story. Richard enlisted the support of his friends and colleagues in the traditional Irish music world to play music continuously for one full day in Galway hostelry Tí Coilí on Mainguard Street.

Richard selected Camp Claddagh as the beneficiary of the event in order to raise much needed funds to ensure a holiday in Galway in July of this year for 22 Belarusian children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Needless to say Camp Claddagh were delighted to be associated with the event and very thankful to all those who supported this very worthwhile fundraiser.

When all sponsorship money was collected, Richard was able to present Camp Claddagh with a cheque for €3,150. This sum will cover expenses for six of the travelling children and is a major boost to the 2010 plans of Camp Claddagh.

Camp Claddagh is a group of volunteers who came together five years ago and established the Galway based outreach group of the Chernobyl Children’s Project Ireland with the principal aim being to bring over children from the areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster. This has been successfully achieved, bringing over 150 children to Galway so far and their work continues as they move into their 2010 programme.

The work of Camp Claddagh could not continue without the support of people like Richard and his friends who gave so freely of their time and energy and for that Camp Claddagh thank everyone associated with the event most sincerely. The generosity of the people attending the event was heart-warming to all those associated with the charity.

A special note of thanks must go to publican Coilí O’Flaherty for hosting the event, in such a marvellous setting.
