What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A still day with a fly rod in my hand and fish on the prowl.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Rasputin. He was misunderstood and had a great constitution.

Which living person do you most admire?

My father.

Which is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Procrastination. I try to list what I have to do but most of the time I find I’ll put it off.

What is your greatest extravagance?

A thatch cottage.

What is your favourite journey?

State Highway 1 – New Zealand’s South Island Kiakora to Blenhim.

On what occasion do you lie?

Every time I get on stage.

Which living person do you most despise?

A security guard in the Athlone Shopping Centre

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My 600 Facebook friends

When and where were you happiest?

I’m lucky that I have too many here to list but watching two knotted dogs on the Moneenageisha Roundabout stopping traffic was particularly funny this week.

Which talent would you most like to have?

To be able to fly. I imagine that’s fairly handy and less to tax and insure.

What is your current state of mind?

Focused, happy, and horny?

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My wife. She’s very patient and washes my socks.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what do you think it would be?

A unicorn.

What is your most treasured possession?

My unicorn horn walking stick.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

The current state of the protection of clergy over the welfare and hypocrisy of the people they claim to love.

What is your favourite occupation?

Comedy Comedy Comedy Comedy.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Generosity.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

The amazing ability they have to vocalise so concisely every tiny little detail in their life no matter how mundane it is.

Who are your favourite writers?

Charles Bukowski, John Donnellan, Tommy Tiernan, and Giles Broady.

What is your motto?

Always take time to smell the roses, pat a dog, and always have time for your friends and family. That was my mother Ngarita Dowling. She followed it always and never put a foot wrong

New Zealander Danny Dowling, along with Galwegian John Donnellan, host Comedy Comedy upstairs in the Róisín Dubh this Saturday at 8pm. The special guest will be Bernard O’ Shea and the gig will be the first Skype comedy gig in Ireland. Admission is €10.
