Dressing for occasions — weddings

When it comes to dressing for a wedding, I believe that it comes down to what you like, and not what is in fashion. So please yourself, as long as the outfit flatters you.

Shapes and colours have to be taken into consideration too. Go for a style that suits you. The shift dress suits most shapes and frames. An open neckline would flatter a larger bust. While a knee length is the most flattering length, a shorter hemline would be great if you are blessed with great legs. If you like to cover your arms then look for a dress with sleeves, or team it with a cropped jacket. Patterns depend on what you like.

Bodice dresses are great for someone who is concerned about her thighs or her midsection. Make sure to wear it with heels to elongate your legs.

If the dress code is black tie then you need to go for stylish and sophisticated. A full length is not a must; shorter length is perfectly acceptable. Just remember to be dressy.

Most boutiques stock beautiful, stylish, pieces to suit everyone. Try Pia Boutique in Loughrea, Design House Barna, Rags boutique for unique and reasonable pieces, Twice as Nice for quirky styles, Demora for exquisite timeless pieces, or Marian’s, which caters for most sizes and stocks Joseph Ribkoff. For larger sizes, look for labels such Claudia Stevens, Personal Choice, or Simply Be in Oranmore.

Shoes wise, I am loving the selection available in Premoli, especially the suede skin tone coloured platforms, great for their legs lengthening effect. Shoes will make a statement to your outfit and this season you will find great colour and style in high street shops or boutiques.

Accessories are a great way to change the look of your outfit. For a quick, cheap, fashion transformation try Pulse Accessories, Penney’s, or New look.

If you are on a budget, high street stores such as Warehouse or Oasis stock really affordable pieces. For shoes try Dunne’s or New Look for stunning shoes at cute prices.

Don’t forget to wear good underwear. Start with a good support bra. Body shapers are great as long as they are comfortable. Penney’s has body shapers for a fraction of the cost.
