Tall tales and growing gardens for Galway Childminding Week

A variety of events for childminders and children will take place in Galway next week as part of Galway Childminding Week, an initiative of the Galway City and County Childcare Committee.

Local storyteller Clare Muireann Murphy will bring her Clap! Bang! and Sing! story time for childminders and children to Ballybane Library on Tuesday March 23 at 10am. Ms Murphy is a dynamic and physical teller with stories for all ages.

The week will culminate in a childminders’ seminar on Saturday March 27 in the Carlton Hotel from 9.30am to 2pm. That morning, a GP will be present to offer medical advice in relation to children, followed by the dynamic ‘Let’s Get Active’ and ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?’ workshops. The Galway Sports Partnership will host the ‘Let’s Get Active’ workshop, and Kay Synott of Living Gardens, who is a qualified horticulturist and garden designer specialising in organic and wildlife gardening, will deliver the ‘How Does Your Garden Grow?” event. A useful new resource for childminders will also be launched at the seminar.

All childminders, potential childminders, and parents are invited to attend the seminar on March 27. “It will be an opportunity for networking and learning, with plenty of information on activities for the little ones and we’ll explore how children can be involved in growing their own food,” said Colette Coughlan, childminder advisory officer with the Galway City and County Childcare Committee.
