The Claddagh National School’s website has enjoyed more than 3,600 hits from web users from more than 70 countries across the globe in its first year in existence.
The website, www.claddaghns.ie, was designed by Seán O’Lionáird and went live in March 2009. It contains information on the school, news, photographs and projects, as well as pages on the heritage and history of the Claddagh.
Most visitors to the site log on to download the latest school newsletter or view class projects. Curious parents researching which school they want for their children learn what they need in the Our School section.
Many visitors also view photo galleries in Special Events, such as Hallowe’en celebrations and the school band’s participation in the St Patrick’s Day Parade. Others, including hundreds from overseas, visit to learn about local heritage and history - unique features of Claddagh culture like the Claddagh ring, the Claddagh hooker, or the old Claddagh itself.
“The site gives a great snapshot of our multi-faceted and intercultural school with the most talented staff to cover all areas of the curriculum and of course very inclusive of all children,” said school principal Brendan Forde. “The site also provides a range of external links so parents, children, and curious visitors can continue whatever journey of learning they start on the website.”
