Man sent for trial for forgery during Galway County Council employment

A 29-year-old man who is accused of allegedly forging a driving licence while being employed by the Galway County Council has been sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court.

Detective Inspector John Hunt gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on Brendan Folan on the morning of Monday’s court sitting.

Folan with an address at 97 Mount Anville Wood, Lower Kilmacud, Dublin 14, is charged with corruptly obtaining for Ciaran Folan a document porporting to be a driving licence valid from September 13, 2006, to September 12, 2016, while being a person in a position of employment in Galway County Council.

He is further charged with making a false instrument, a driving licence, with the intention to use it to induce a person to accept it as genuine and by reason of accepting said instrument to do some act or make an omission on September 13, 2006.

Judge Mary Fahy noted that the accused man had entered a plea of not guilty at a previous court sitting and the matter had been adjourned for the preparation of the book of evidence.

The court heard that the DPP has consented to the matter being forwarded for trial at the next sitting of Galway Circuit Court commencing April 27.
