A sneak preview of who is coming to Cúirt

THE CÚIRT International Festival of Literature celebrates its 25th birthday this year and to honour this milestone will present a strong contemporary programme of events from April 20 to 25.

Writers coming to Cúirt this year include Colum McCann, Ian Rankin, Mary Gaitskill, Roddy Doyle, Enrique Juncosa, Tessa Hadley, Kevin Barry, and Ian Jack.

This year Cúirt introduces a new initiative with The New Yorker, a magazine internationally renowned for its fiction section.

The festival will also welcome four of Canada’s finest living writers in a special International Festival of Authors Toronto event. This roundtable reading will be introduced by acclaimed Canadian Broadcasting Corporation broadcaster Eleanor Wachtel.

Theatre lovers can look forward to the Irish premiére of Yellow Moon by Galway Youth Theatre and Burn The Bad Lamp adapted by Kevin Barry and Rod Goodall. There will also be performances in the Druid Lane Theatre, Cava, Norman Villa Gallery, Sheridans on the Docks, The Harbour Hotel, and The Skeff Bar, while the new home of the Cúirt Festival Club will be the Hotel Meyrick.

Special poetry events will include Galway-based poets Eva Bourke, Moya Cannon, Rita Ann Higgins, Fred Johnston, and Mary O’Malley. Irish language poetry will feature two emerging voices in the Irish language Scott De Buitléir and Caitríona Ní Chléirchín while audiences’ of the Spoken Word and Song strand can look forward to Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip in the Róisín Dubh.

Young people can look forward to events with Cathy Cassidy and Celine Kiernan while the third All Ireland School Slam will present its poetry slam workshops for secondary schools and present the final as part of the Cúirt festival. For more information on this event email [email protected].
