MÁIRTÍN O’CONNOR, Garry O’Brian, and Seamie O’Dowd are three of the best trad musicians in the business whose recent collaborations have resulted in some terrific music.
However they all have birthdays around the same time (late March/early April ) and to mark that fact the trio are going to hold the Triple Birthday Benefit Bash gig in Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, Headford, on Monday March 29 at 8pm.
The concert will be in aid of charity with proceeds from the night going towards the Kidane Meheret Children’s Home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Also performing with Máirtín and friends on the night will be Cathal Hayden, Jim Higgins, Mary McPartlan, Aoife McNamara, Don Stiffe, Joe Naughton, and some sean nós dancers.
Kidane Meheret Children’s Home was founded in 1933 by French nuns. Its aim is to “love, care, understand and educate children of different ages, tribes, and religions”. The home attends to the health, nourishment, and educational needs of children under eight years of age who have been abandoned, live on the street, or are orphans. It also cares for children of parents who are sick with HIV (AIDS ).
