AGUS RUD Eile De/And Another Thing is a collaboration of three different artists working in three different mediums - poetry, art, and music - all contained within a book and CD.
The book features poems by the Cork born, Galway based, poet, lyricist, and academic Louis de Paor. The work was originally published in 2002 as an as Gaeilge only collection but has been republished by Co Galway’s Cló Iar-Chonnachta in a bi-lingual edition.
Translations of the poems into English are by Kevin Anderson, Biddy Jenkinson, and Mary O’Donoghue, with Louis de Paor. The poems are accompanied by paintings, depicting loss and separation, by Kathleen Furey.
The accompanying CD features De Paor reading poems to musical accompaniment by piper Ronan Browne, a solo artist, who was also a member of The Afro Celt Sound System.
The poems concern a man on the brink of middle age. Behind him stand those who have gone before, ushering him on his way and shortening the road ahead.
When he looks at those who are still young and innocent he finds it strange that they do not see the shadows that gather around them. Yet, the hope that creeps through the cracks in his heart cannot be stifled.
As part of a series of events to mark the launch of the book, Louis and Ronan will give a performance of the poems and music in The Galway Arts Centre, Dominick Street, this Saturday at 2pm. Admission is free.
Louis De Paor will also read at a poetry evening on Monday at 8pm as part of Lohans, Salthill’s Ciorcol Comhra evening for Seacthain na Gaeilge.
