The Galway City and County Childcare Committee is planning a number of events to celebrate National Childminding Week, which will take place from March 22 to 27.
The theme of this year’s event is Let’s Get Out and Play, and childminders will be demonstrating how they encourage children to go out and play as much as possible.
A week of fun activities nationally will showcase quality childminding and encourage childminders and the children in their care to get out and about. All week the Galway City and County Childcare Committee will be publicising the good, quality, work done by Galway childminders.
All childminders are asked to participate in Childminding Week by working with the children on a fun garden nature trail. Materials from the nature trails will be displayed at a childminding seminar on Saturday March 27 in the Carlton Hotel. A prize will be given for the most inspiring collection.
Quality childminding means a commitment to continuous training, and putting the children first in all aspects of care. “I encourage all childminders to take part in the events of Childminding Week, in particular Saturday’s seminar,” said Colette Coughlan, childminder advisory officer with Galway City and County Childcare Committee. “There will be a doctor present to give medical advice in relation to children and also ‘Let’s get Active’ and ‘How does your Garden Grow?’ workshops followed by lunch for all the participants.” A new resource for childminders will also be launched at the seminar.
