Today will see the launch of an online campaign to get public support behind the development of the Galway City Outer Bypass.
Galway West Fianna Fáil TD Frank Fahey is launching an email campaign inviting members of the public and the business community to join him in adding their names to a public petition showing support for the building of the bypass.
This is the start of a campaign by Dep Fahey to progress on the project, which is currently stuck in the courts over a point of interpretation of the Habitats Directive.
Dep Fahey believes the bypass is “crucial to the development and growth” of Galway city and Connemara.
“A bypass is more than just a road,” he said. “A bypass will decrease congestion and allow Galway to become a more manageable city to live, work, and shop in. It will slash journey times across the city. For example, Barna village to the airport will be cut from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes. After 10 years of planning, we’ve had enough waiting. The bypass is a pressing necessity.”
Dep Fahey is asking for the public to get behind the campaign by signing the petition at http://www.fiannafail.ie/galwaybypass
