Update your spring wardrobe

Spring is around the corner and shops are already bursting with the season’s new collections. Follow my top style tricks to help you update your wardrobe.

If you have not done it yet, start by doing a wardrobe clear out. This involves taking out what does not suit you or does not fit you. You need to look at the colour, shape, and style of the garment and make sure that it suits you. Once you have done this first step, create a pile for the garments that need to be repaired or altered to bring to your dressmaker.

You can then organise and store your clothes in a way which will make them easily accessible. This will help you evaluate what pieces you need to invest in to complement your existing spring/summer wardrobe.

The second step involves putting together a couple of looks with what you currently have in your wardrobe. For example, try to pair your jeans with a couple of tops and jackets, or a dress with a summer coat and wedges heels. This will help you to decide what to add to these looks. You may decide to get a new bag to match the jeans and the dress, or a new dress to match two of your favourite jackets.

You will then need to decide what must-have items from this season you need to purchase to update your current wardrobe. This season the trenchcoat or mac is a must-have — it will never date and it goes with many items. It is the best investment you can make this season. Other key items for this season are the boyfriend jacket, floral dresses, shift dresses, and leg lengthening nude heels.

When buying for this season, remember that it is the style that matters and not the fashion. It is better to shop for timeless, good quality, pieces than will last much longer and will not date. The last step is to match your new garments with the existing pieces in your wardrobe.
